Meet The Artist

Donna Bishop is a Canadian fine artist and award-winning graphic designer whose creative career spans nearly four decades.

A New Chapter

ArteBella Studio meaning “beautiful art” in Italian, reflects both my heritage and the creative direction my work has taken over more than three decades as a graphic designer and owner of Creative Effects Advertising Studio, and fine artist.

Formally, my studio was called ART+function. I used to be focused on creating beautiful, yet functional art for people’s homes. I have since shifted my focus to more align with my passions. The studio’s new name marks an exciting NEW chapter, one where my Italian roots, my love of European culture, and my lifelong connection with animals guide the heart of everything I create.

My Inspirations

As an artist with 30+ years of experience, I work primarily in acrylic, watercolour, and mixed media, painting landscapes and wildlife inspired by the places I’ve travelled and the creatures that have shaped my life.

My travels through Europe, especially Italy, heavily influence my palette, patterns, and compositions. I’m continually inspired by its colours, history, architecture, and lifestyle, and I aim to bring those textures and memories to life in each piece.

Animals have always been a constant source of joy for me. At one point, our home had more pets than humans, and that affection shows through in my paintings. I love all kinds of animals — exotic animals from around the world and those closer to home like farm and domestic creatures of all sizes.

In addition to original paintings, I offer high-quality canvas reproductions, matted prints, stickers, cards, calendars and a growing selection of art-forward gift items. One of my most beloved creations is the handcrafted, hand-painted Message in a Bauble. It is a unique ornament containing a hidden message that was inspired by my “Nonna” and my wish to see her beautiful handwriting again.

La Mia Famiglia

Outside of the studio, I’ve been married for as long as I’ve been an artist, and together we’ve raised one daughter and a happy handful of pets over the years. Art has always been woven through the fabric of our home—colourful, lively, and full of stories—much like the works I create.

Ultimately, my goal as an artist is simple: to share beauty, joy, and connection through art that feels personal, heartfelt, and inspired by the things I am passionate about!

I am open to commissions and welcome custom requests. If you have a particular subject, animal, or idea in mind that you’d like to see brought to life, feel free to get in touch.
